The Findings so far

The programme began in 2000 and is still relatively young, nevertheless it has achieved a great deal in a short time. The Local Authority Support Programme is showing its worth, reducing energy consumption, addressing climate change and promoting affordable warmth. By the end of 2002 the programme had actively raised the profile and funding for energy efficiency across a broad range of activities:

The programme is setting up or reviving local energy efficiency forums, reviving local interest in strategic working
 
57 strategic partnership events were held between July 2002
and January 2003
 
Over £350,000 has been put into energy efficiency by registered social landlords as a result of the Local Authority Support Programme
 
491 people attended awareness raising events
 
Local authorities put energy efficiency into 13 community plans and into 31 other plans, with £1.1 million secured to
assist their implementation
 
The programme has prompted an additional £1.3 million
investment in measures to alleviate fuel poverty
 
Local authorities have reported an additional spend of £670,000 on energy efficiency because of the Local Authority Support Programme
 
£2.4 million has been secured through the Local Authority Support Programme to set up 33 new projects that improve energy efficiency
